Monterey Aquarium Wedding Rates

Over and out - ¡A explorar entonces!

¡Buenos días desde Panamá!

Now it's over ... 11 months community service in Panama have been inclined towards its inevitable end, and I'm going with a good load of experience and impressions. But before I turn back to the missing 'homeland' return, I am going now the last three weeks with my mother through the country and even the odd spot of the country see that I still do not know! :)

first time but I will tell you now from the last two weeks here at Cepas, in which I have yet seen anything.

For example, I've ventured into my most distant village, there to pass footballs donated volunteer Carina

Our projects on a larger map

The way there was pretty impressive, and somewhat cumbersome.

The River Calovébora is one of the major rivers that originate in the central mountain range, depending on the season (or Tagesziet) to provide a tearing river or a quiet stream ...

crystal clear water and pure on the banks Djngel!

The river bed is huge and although the river was calm, we had to the hips through the water wade

The village school was 7 years ago, built with funds from the third world circle Panama eV - because no government funds in these remote regions come ...

stands in the village on a stone and a plaque, where support for the construction of water lines from Herdecke manifests is

the ball I had been barely five seconds off his hand because he was already in use immediately! :)

On the last part of the way back then there was the sleeping river to life when a heavy shower came from the mountains - in less than 10 minutes the river was about a meter deep and a 1-2m stream to a 15-20m wide river has become true.
These circumstances have caused many deaths in the region, which is why bridges are still urgently needed. The village has its Bilingüe get 3 years ago, after drowning in the previous rainy season, two teachers and one student was ...

My enthusiasm and perplexity about the beauty of this region is probably the glut of photos taken - it was even though it was not so easy absolute value, and from the tourist point of view.
course I have so but also learned about another type of difficult accessibility, and regions such as these have been supported for some time more of organizations like Cepas, however, the many poor infrastructure and the associated costs that the aid to arrive here Season methods ...

And once again I have documented some of my adventure with video (also available without an account!):

am for the long-awaited World Cup final but sad at the weekend I went to Panama City to there with friends in Public viewing to see the victory of the Spaniards ...

Most Panameños course, were happy with Spain as a world champion - I would have preferred Germany as seen ... :-P
the rest of the time I still have a lot of (annoying) paper work behind me, was particularly weak finish the endnotes are still found to be correct fun because everything I in as much detail as possible bureaucratic must enter into an Excel spreadsheet ... When I look up to this point not quite sure, was then has shown me through this monster definitely Liquid correctness, that the bureaucracy in developing countries, where it was also not invented here comes here to its full bloom!

And actually it was the already too! Incredible, how fast is under year ago, when we experience something.
Although my "other service abroad" to this day ends, this is not the end of my blog - because I'll tell you definitely still on my journey through the country. And then also by the departure from here and return home in Germany ...

a nice summer and all the returnees a good flight home!
the new volunteers Luise , Jule and Simon, already on 5 and 10 Come August, I wish a good time and once I have the blog address, I will publish them here!

How To Resolve Bleeding Veneer

demonstrations in Panama

I had in recent weeks, often times mentioned, the controversial president of the new Gesetespaket Martinelli . Now go the protests (in which I've even participated in part) to a very different and violent level. I do not know how or whether überhaput turned up this issue in the German news. In the Caribbean banana region Bocas del Toro already two people have died in the streets ...

Here is the map for orientation: (click for more info on the icons)

This article from the TAZ I am here on the Internet on the way running, and shortly describes the situation quite well.

DEMONSTRATIONS IN PANAMA

A strike in a banana plantation takes to civil war proportions. It's not just higher wages, but the new neoliberal labor.

BERLIN taz
supply in the Caribbean province of Bocas del Toro on the border with Costa Rica, security forces and the striking workers of a banana plantation open battles. burn in the provincial capital Changuinola barricades, shops and cars. A police station went up in flames. Two workers were shot and injured over 300. There are also casualties among the police shot it. Over 100 strikers were arrested. There is a nightly curfew. The strikers demand the withdrawal of the newly adopted laws.
Martinelli, one of the richest men in Panama, including the owner of the largest supermarket chain in the country was in May last year as the candidate of choice he created the association "Democratic Change (CD) has been elected president. His promise: He will understand something of the economy afloat and make the country again. The global financial crisis had shaken the banking center Panamá special. The new Labour Act is now in his vision to boost the economy and create jobs. The recipe: deregulation.
see among others, the recent laws passed new rules for strikes. Companies can now dismiss the strikers and replace them with new recruits willing to work. Private investments that are considered by the government as important, can in future be approved without environmental studies. Companies are not obligated to pay union dues for their workers directly. This law was the Seventies, a gift of the left-populist dictator Omar Torrijos to the workers and the unions had guaranteed a sound financial basis. keep
To protest under Martinelli had sent in one go and immediately restrict the right to demonstrate. Those who block roads - such as unauthorized parades - is punished in the future with two years in prison. Nevertheless, the legislative package in mid-June had the largest demonstration of the effect of the Panama City had seen in years. More than 60 trade unions, Social organizations and environmental organizations have called for tens of thousands took to the streets.
In the province of Bocas del Toro banana laws have now been applied for the first time. The workers of the local Bocas Fruit Company were fighting for higher wages, overtime pay and compensation for Sunday work. The company was threatened with dismissal. It was the beginning of July to first demonstrations. The government responded by strengthening the police, and so the conflict escalated from work to fight militant protest against the new legislation. On Tuesday in all banana plantations in the country will be on strike.
Martinelli's determination that to win the fight. His Secretary of Labor Alma Lorena Cortes repeated at every opportunity: "The legislative package will not be reversed." Martinelli himself vilified in the best right-wing populist style with the strikers. The protests in Bocas del Toro are no local labor dispute, but would be handled by "foreigners and opposition". Even the burning of cars, shops and a police station, he takes no further serious. But are "a couple of drunks" responsible.

Sportcraft Arcade Hoops Locks Up

WM, protest march, and pre-Columbian bones

Yikes, I'm back!

course I could not even the Fussballenthusiasmus escape, of whom I hear from all corners of the world, from Holland to Brazil, Ghana and Mexico. Here in Panama, despite the lack of national team (the Panameños have not received state ...). Also, we have watched the matches, though in part only by radio - but even in the mountains of the Comarca heard in every mud house the hysterical "GOOOOOOOOL" shouting commentators and should be congratulated at every turn for Germany's last game. People are thrilled football and now that is not a Latin American team over here really to turn many of the Germans to enjoy ourselves and our 4th World Cup title.

Thus one looks in the comarca of the World Cup: on single, tiny black-oriented television with poor reception as the villagers gathered and fever for Germany and her English teacher ;-)
Fifa The Coup (up on the shelf) has already made it to Panama, although not even a national team has come together ... Panama joins the long line of world champion of hearts
The Enthusiasm for this world event was in many countries, exploited by governments to push through unpopular measures. Even here in Panama is the law "9 in 1" of which I had reported before, were waved through at this time in a quiet hour. The legislative package includes several, not really related reforms encountered particularly among the poor on large resistance. The protection of employees of the work-free Sunday has now disappeared, the taxes were increased from 5% to 7%, the controversial hydroelectric power plants with their dams no longer need to be reviewed by the Ministry of Environment. An even more dangerous aspect is the prohibition of strikes, if by a protest to a road is blocked, the Protestants with 2 years in prison. Since this formulation is very open and the police anyway here is like in a developing country, has already shown that many people are intimidated and no longer express their opinions and use a basic right of democracy.
For this reason, various interest groups last week took to the streets to demonstrate. Above all, the activist Larissa again, protesting with a group campesinos and Indians for the environment and against dams.
For Facebook users here a slide show of protest

The Ngöbe-Bugle (or as they write themselves Ngäbe-boucle)

Since the protest filed was allowed to the main road and even the Interamericana be (!) will be closed for about a half hour. Here we see labor unions (which are organized in Panama very weak), Indians and Campe immersion protesting against the "sausage" law
My now so cherished education project in the Comarca is drawing to a close. Students have in the past few hours once asked properly and learned to get this weekend its endnotes and now it is only to say next week Adiós ...

One of my Students will be taken apart at the table ...
learning in the only 'real' classroom
The Rest of the teaching takes, such as here in the library instead - for ordinary heat, as you can see from my back. Only without power is no fan in sight ...

course is also the night life not ended. In "La Colorada", a very famous folkloric village was holding the last week Baile that also has my favorite Típicokünstler Alfredo occurred

The man with the accordion, the looks is so grim, Alfredo - and it seems like I'm trying to dance to the music ... Fail!
Finally today I was on a trip to a Catholic school, when I looked around in the last few days.

strict Catholic school leadership with a Daily schedule of 5 clock in the morning to 7 clock in the evening
Despite all hardship, the school is a good mini-company, in which students from poorer regions of the Apply practical knowledge of agriculture and land management directly

The school day is broken up, however, with many interesting excursions. Here I was invited to an on archaeological excavations in Nata

are on this interactive map all our projects

I Need Some New Masterbation Ideas

over-development policy

¡Aloha!

The last weeks of my year (can you believe it?) Are broken in Panama. I take everything goes with what!

For those who have little time, here is a one-minute video statement:

At first I was two weeks again on a gira médica , one of the mobile-medical rounds with Americans. So spectacular the first was, so was this, fourth almost routine. I have translated in the drug issue and dealt with the Farmazisten drugs. Since this time was the area around Buenos Aires (the village where I give a week tuition) is covered, I already knew everything, and even many of the patients because they are my students.

In the drug issue in a school

All provisionally something, but here it is really only to supply and medical knowledge to
In a school under the palms, the group of about 40 medical students, doctors and translators set

for my medical knowledge, but also further liquefaction of my English -English translation, has also shown me use this again, that the need for good medical care in Panama even in the vicinity of the main artery of the country urgently needed. And another developing country problem has been found particularly in this region: illiteracy. Many people over 40 can not read or write and had such problems with the instructions on the drugs ...

Some Ngöbe-Indian women and a typical campesino hat with Omi

have in the next week I again worked with the "activist" Larissa. In her village (the road that goes through the whole of America) directly to the Inter-Americana is, there is much poverty and people living in adobe houses that were built there with the help of the Panama-circle about 30 years ago. I was there once to help in the completion of a workshop / library / multi-use facility and to a reforestation project near the village a little more to know from first row. Here is the photo story:

No, this bag is not gold that I stole from a bank in the Wild West ... But stones and sand, we have 'stolen' from the ruins of which are from the construction of the Inter-Americana left - is not anyway a lot, so it's not really as criminal
:-P

The houses that were built with German help here 30 years ago, are now in poor State, but the people themselves have no financial means to do something about

I'll miss most: cooking bananas
:-(
children.'s wealth, while the poverty of many developing countries. These little helpers at the time should actually be in school ... However, if there is no money may need to school supplies are not purchased and the children are more likely to the country needed to ensure the diet. If they do, however, no education or only primary school, the opportunities for advancement out of poverty are not very many ... A vicious circle!

The breeding garden of the reforestation project in the village of El Cobre "

Larissa explained to a hard-working helpers, which are made must

The biggest enemy of reforestation projects: the leaf-cutting ant, which has already attacked parts of the project young

seedlings in the hard, dry and on the surface only stony ground is not easy - especially not where it operates reforestation, because it no shadows are and how in the desert sun beats down
The only shrubs that grow in dry-up of the desert landscape of the Central Provinces are not particularly large, covered but still regularly fire "cleaning" of the land to the victims, so that nothing can grow out of fast grass

At the bus stop the village is the message, "Save life on earth, plant trees!"

Although the people are simple and poor, that does not mean they do not or can not. A man in a village in its Arts from the subsistence Hutflächter. This can be, depending on HutArt make up to $ 30 a piece.

to the people of my organization Cepas (now have a website ) I also was a bit to know dealt with the organization and the costs of such activities

This organization still important to me, so I from, so take with me officially as "developmental voluntary service" Weltwaerts even some of the policy in development policy.

follow Now two weeks, from which there will be something to report, I'm sure. See you soon!

your Niklas, still from Panama
